MUNCIE, Ind. — Delaware County Republicans on Tuesday will select their nominees in a pair of contested races for county commissioner.
Incumbent commissioners James King and Sherry Riggin each have GOP primary challengers.
Stephen Brand — president of the Muncie Sanitary District board — hopes to unseat King in District 1.
In District 2, incumbent Sherry Riggin's opponent is Troy Ingram, a former Muncie City Council member.
The only other contested Delaware County race on the Republican primary ballot finds seven candidates seeking nomination to three at-large seats on Delaware County Council.
Republicans in that race are incumbents Jessica Piper, Ryan Webb and Eugene Whitehead, and challengers Brad Bookout, Amber Greene, Lori Jessee and David Williams.
The top of the GOP ballot lists Donald Trump and Nikki Haley as candidates for president, although Haley has suspended her campaign.
Six candidates are also vying to become the Republican candidate for governor, and eight candidates are trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz in Indiana's 5th Congressional District.
Delaware County Democrats have no contested primary races for Delaware County offices.
President Joe Biden, at the top of the Democratic ballot, has no opponent.
Two Democrats, Marc Carmichael and Valerie McCray, are seeking their party's nomination for the U.S. Senate.
Given the limited number of local races, Delaware County Clerk Rick Spangler said last week that a comparatively low number of voters had turned out to cast early ballots at the county building.
Polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
