MUNCIE, Ind. — Two Muncie residents were arrested Tuesday night after a third man was determined to have been stabbed about 15 times.

Johan Jose Gomez-Vasquez, 48, was being held Wednesday in the Delaware County Jail under a $70,000 bond, preliminarily charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.

The bond for Miguel Rodriguez-Vasquez, 54, was set at $50,000. He is preliminarily charged with aiding, inducing or causing attempted murder.

In court documents, the men are listed as residents of the same home in the 300 block of South Greentree Drive, where the stabbing victim reported he had been attacked.

That man reportedly called emergency dispatchers about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, and said he had "been stabbed in the side of his body with a knife by his friend."

When police arrived, they said the victim was "actively bleeding from numerous obvious wounds."

The victim indicated he had been stabbed by Gomez-Vasquez, who remained at the scene.

An officer also reported the victim referred to Gomez-Vasquez as his "amigo."

In the 911 call, the victim said he had been fighting with a friend who then stabbed him, adding that "he did not know why."

The victim was taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was determined to have suffered approximately 15 stab wounds. He underwent surgery and was in the hospital's intensive care unit on Wednesday.

Rodriguez-Vasquez was also at the home when officers arrived, and was reported to have "a large amount of what appeared to be blood on his clothing."

Officers said they also found "a very large amount of what appeared to be blood on the floor and walls."

Both Gomez-Vasquez and Rodriguez-Vasquez were taken into custody.

A Spanish-speaking police interpreter was called to city hall to assist with interviews, but the suspects declined to "cooperate with any investigation," an affidavit said.

Police received a warrant to search the westside home. Under a carport, they reported finding "several trash bags and suitcases" believed to contain Gomez-Vasquez's belongings, along with "sandals with a pattern similar to the shoe imprints in the suspected blood inside the residence," and clothing that appeared to be bloody.

The Delaware County prosecutor's office will determine whether formal charges in the case will be filed.
