MOUNT HOREB, Wis. (WTVO) — A suspect has been neutralized in an “active shooter” incident at Mt. Horeb Middle School on Wednesday, according to the school district.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice said police officers from Mount Horeb responded to a report of someone with a weapon outside the school Wednesday morning around 11:15 a.m.

“This incident took place outdoors. The subject in this case never gained entry to the school buildings during the incident and was a student from the Mount Horeb School District,” the DOJ said in a release.

No other injuries have been reported.

“An initial search of the middle school has not yielded additional suspects. As importantly, we have no reports of individuals being harmed, with the exception of the alleged assailant,” the school district said .

“The safety and security of our students and staff is paramount. We are following our emergency protocols. We will update you when we have more information to share,” the school district said in a statement.

Students were escorted to a reunification site to meet with their parents and guardians.
