Accident snarls traffic on U.S. 601

Those approaching the intersection of Rockford St./U.S. Highway 601 and U.S. Highway 52 on Tuesday evening were greeted by flashing lights of all colors as an accident blocked southbound lanes of Rockford St.

Officials on the scene had no comment on the accident as they were in the process of their investigation.

There was only one car seen involved which was wrapped around a tree in the natural border area between the Wendy's parking lot and Rockford St.

It appeared that the impact was with the side of the vehicle and destroyed the car. It was hard to tell the make or model of the car, but it was clear that the airbags had deployed on both the driver and passenger side.

Bits and pieces of the car and a tire were strewn about as members of the fire department were seen with leaf blowers getting debris out of Wendy's parking lot so they could resume business. Bystanders were huddled in that lot as well as the McDonald's lot next door watching the cleanup.
