MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Marshall County Sheriff Bill Helms says at approximately 5:30pm on Friday, a single vehicle crash resulted in the death of 1 man, and sent another to the hospital.

The accident happened in the lower part of Round Bottom Hill, about 3 miles south of Moundsville city limits.

The vehicle was a type of truck that hauls sludge and waste from fracking sites.

Sheriff Helms tells us that the driver lost control going down the hill, left the road and then the vehicle fell 200-300 feet over the hill, finally coming to a stop on its top, then it caught fire.

The passenger of the vehicle, Markell McKoy of Uniontown, PA died at the scene.

The driver, 25-year-old Shaimere Gregg-Thomas, also of Uniontown, PA, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The vehicle was owned by American Waste Incorporated out of Michigan.

The vehicle still needs to be recovered. Sheriff Helms says the area where the truck is located will make that process difficult, but he expects it to be removed in the next few days or sooner.

The crash site will be inspected by the West Virginia Division of Highways, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office will reconstruct the crash.

The EPA was also on scene because of the contents of the truck, but Sheriff Helms says there is likely no environmental concern at this time.
