    Boys track and field: Mounds View outdistances Ponies at invitational

    ARDEN HILLS — Victories in 10 of 19 events helped propel Mounds View to a 109-96 victory over Stillwater and the rest of the four-team field in the Bob Stewart Invitational on Tuesday, April 30 at Mounds View High School. Cambridge-Isanti followed in third place with 61 points.

    Eli Aldridge won two of the four individual first-place finishes for the Ponies, outdistancing two teammates to cross the line first in the 400 meters (52.45) and adding a victory in the long jump (20-6 3/4).

    Quinten Howe (52.91) and Alem Kovac (53.55) placed second and third behind Aldridge as the Ponies swept the top three spots in the 400.

    Ethan Foote (1:58.26) and Dylan Riniker (1:59.45) finished 1-2 in the 800 meters to pace Stillwater in that event while Liam Neis tied Micah Wilson of Cambridge-Isanti for first place in the pole vault after both cleared 13-6. Neis added a runner-up finish in the high jump at 6-0.

    Stillwater’s top finisher placed fourth or higher in 18 of 19 events in the meet.

    Tyler Curnow helped lead a strong showing in the field events for the Ponies, placing second in both the shot put (47-11) and discus (158-11). Cash Cerar (47-7) and Evan Uddin (47-4 1/4) placed third and fifth behind Curnow in the shot put.

    Chase Johnson (5-10) and Nagayo Barento (5-10) placed fourth and fifth for Stillwater in the high jump while Andrew Brekke added a fifth-place showing in the pole vault at 13-6.

    Brett Hilde recorded a third-place finish in the triple jump (40-11 1/4) and fourth-place effort in the long jump (19-8).

    On the track, Jack Richter (4:40.98) and Davis Rolstad (4:41.91) placed third and fifth in the 1,600 meters for the Ponies while teammates George Nelson (10:15.92) and Carson Fellows (10:26.45) landed fourth and fifth in the 3,200.

    Soel Riser led Stillwater in the sprints, placing third in the 200 (22.80) and sixth in the 100 (11.67).

    Fruma Felema ran to a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (17.01) and sixth-place showing in the 300 hurdles (45.00). Barento placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (43.81) and one spot behind Felema in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.07.

    Stillwater also won the Bob Stewart 4x400 relay (3:29.38) and the Dick Riter 4x800 relay (8:41.13).
