Calm and sunny before a windy Tuesday in the Kittitas Valley
High pressure remains today with an incoming low to our northwest from the Gulf of Alaska. A large cold front is sweeping through on Tuesday after our daytime highs for the first two workdays of the week are in the upper 80s and low 90s. Lows are mild Monday night with temps in the upper 50s and partly cloudy skies. Humidity keeps dropping the next couple days as the cold front will usher dry air. Little moisture ahead of the front will keep us from seeing rain showers, but the front will bring windy conditions for Eastern Washington and Oregon. The strongest winds will be in the Kittitas Valley and the Columbia River Gorge. Wind speeds will be WNW at 25-35 mph in the Kittitas Valley with WNW 15-25 mph elsewhere through the Columbia Basin and Eastern Washington. Gusts will be 35-45 mph in Ellensburg with 25-35 mph elsewhere in Eastern Washington and Oregon as the front passes through Tuesday afternoon/evening. Temps begin to return to normal through Wednesday and Thursday in the mid and upper 80s. Winds calm through the middle of the week as temps keep dropping to the upper 70s and low 80s for the Richland Regatta with partly cloudy skies and a gusty breeze. In Yakima temps will be in the mid 70s by this weekend. A low propagates in Southern Canada Saturday afternoon to our northeast while the ridge over the Eastern Pacific pushes in from the southwest and we shift from a westerly-by-northwesterly flow into a westerly-southwesterly flow by the end of the weekend.
