MORRISTOWN, NJ -  As graduation time nears, Morristown High School seniors are taking part in certain ceremonies and rituals that mark the end of their high school career.  One of those rituals is the "Water Gun Assassination Game". This water gun game, organized by the senior class, has kids trying to get their "targets" out by squirting them with water guns. Those "hit" by water are eliminated from the game. The game continues until only one player remains.

There are certain areas like school grounds that are "off limits", most kids are getting squirted in town or around their homes. Only those who want to play, participate.

An anonymous member of the Morristown Stimulus Plan on Facebook took to social media to remind the community that the game had started.

"So don’t be alarmed if you see teens with water guns crouched down in yards, creeping around houses, parking lots, buildings, etc., (possibly wearing a bathing suit and goggles- keeping them safe from their assailant lol) as they will be trying to get their assigned “target” out", wrote the poster. "The aim of the game is for players to track down and eliminate their targets until only one player remains. When a player eliminates their target, they get the victim's target(s). Last one standing wins a cash prize. This is innocent fun before graduation and going off to college or becoming boring working adults!"

However, a day later, the Morristown Police Department had already responded to a report of a person with a firearm.

"Upon arrival, it was determined that the involved individual was a high school student participating in a senior ritual, "water gun assassination."", stated Morristown Police Chief Richardson.  "This game is an unsanctioned end of the school year activity organized amongst high school senior students, where they use water pistols to surprise each other. Our understanding is that this game can take place anywhere in town, including residential areas, and at any time of the day".

"While we don’t endorse or condone this activity, our goal is to inform the public about this game to prevent any potential misunderstandings or escalated citizens responses, especially those who maybe approved for a concealed carry permit", said Chief Richardson.  "We must advise that the safest choice to avoid unintended consequences is to not participate.  However, we also encourage parents to educate their children about safety measures if they do choose to participate including avoiding the use of anything that could be mistaken for a firearm".
