5 West Virginia minigolf courses to check out in 2024

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — With Memorial Day around the corner, minigolf courses are starting to open up for the 2024 season, and a few already have.

Although north central West Virginia isn’t particularly known for its minigolf, there are five different courses spread out across the region, primarily between Morgantown and Clarksburg, although there is a course for Davis visitors to enjoy as well. Starting in Morgantown, here are five minigolf courses for you or your family to try next time you’re looking for a weekend activity.

Cryptid Mountain Miniature Golf — Morgantown, W.Va.

Cryptid Mountain Miniature Golf is the area’s newest miniature golf course but is without a doubt the most unique out of any course on this list. As the name suggests Cryptid Mountain is a themed indoor minigolf course packed with different West Virginia cryptids and references to West Virginia folklore. This 13-hole course brings local myths to life in a way that really isn’t available anywhere else.

The course also has a low-sensory hour on the first Thursday of every month for those with special needs.

  • Wednesday: Large groups only (15 or more), reservations required
  • Thursday: 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Morgantown Miniature Golf & Chip-N-Putt — Morgantown, W.Va.

Morgantown Miniature Golf & Chip-N-Putt is located near The Pines Country Club, a popular golf course in Morgantown. The course has 18 minigolf holes as well as a nine-hole Chipp-N-Putt course and several water features. As described on the course’s Facebook page , participants at the Chipp-N-Putt course use a pitching wedge and putter to test their short game on a series of holes that range between 20 and 50 yards long.

If you’re really looking to challenge yourself, those who score a hole-in-one on the 18th minigolf hole are awarded with a free year of minigolf!

Coal Country Miniature Golf — Fairmont, W.Va.

Coal Country Miniature Golf is themed after coal mining, and many of the course’s obstacles are made from old industrial tools and equipment. If you’re driving on Interstate 79 near Fairmont, there’s a good chance you’ve seen this course’s iconic coal miner statue from the interstate (pictured above). The statue was made by an ex-coal miner using old hot water heaters, and there’s a second, painted statue by the same artist less than 20 miles away.

River Bend Mini Golf — Clarksburg, W.Va.

River Bend Mini Golf is a community golf course located at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Clarksburg, directly next to the splash park and swimming pool . This 18-hole course will officially open during Memorial Day Weekend and offers free admission for senior citizens, active military and kids five and under. It was even remodeled earlier this spring.

• Hours: Noon – 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday (Opens Saturday, May 25)
• Location: Veteran’s Memorial Park, Clarksburg, W.Va.

Almost Heaven Mini Golf — Davis, W.Va.

If you’re staying in Canaan Valley, Almost Heaven Mini Golf is located in the nearby town of Davis and is currently open for the 2024 season. This 18-hole course sports a handful of water features and is right off of the Appalachian Highway (SR 32); the first nine holes of the course are also ADA accessible.

• Hours: 11 a.m. – 9 a.m. Monday through Sunday
