MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Ginger, a West Virginia University Police Department (UPD) K-9 who served the department for 12 years, has died.

According to a press release from WVU , she was a golden retriever who was trained in explosives detection; she and her handler often provided security at large events and games by sniffing out venues and checking unattended bags at places like Milan Puskar Stadium and the Coliseum.

She retired and passed away from cancer in April.
