Pennies and pies in Watertown
Every year Watertown-Mayer Middle School Student Council rallies students to “penny up”. Throughout the month of March, each grade brings in change, checks, and paper currency to compete with one another in friendly competition called “Penny Wars” all for the cause of raising awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year, students could also donate money to place their name in a bucket to “pie” a staff member in the face! One student was chosen from each grade and they got to choose their target. Minnesota deputies were in the right place at the right time last week to save a woman after a home exploded, and body camera footage captured the incident. The rescue happened at around 8:45 a.m. April 22 when two Hennepin County sheriff's deputies—Dearest Welwolie and Gregory Granson—heard a loud explosion as they were serving papers in a Richfield neighborhood, KARE-TV reports. Downtown construction season begins in Waconia
