Newton Police Department Reports 'No Threat' After Armed Person Causes Hospital Lock Down
NEWTON, NJ— The Newton Police Department responded to Newton Medical Center on Friday, May 17 after receiving reports of “an armed individual” entering the premises. According to police, upon receiving the report, the hospital immediately implemented lock-down procedures to ensure the safety of all patients, staff and visitors.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Officers from the Newton Police Department had support from several other law enforcement agencies, according to police. Once on scene, police located the individual and, determined that there was no threat to the public safety. According to police, after their investigation the lock-down was lifted and “normal operations at the medical center resumed.” A press release was issued later that day by the police department: “The Newton Police Department extends its gratitude to the community for their cooperation and vigilance during this incident. We commend the staff at Newton Medical Center for their quick and efficient response, and we express our appreciation to our mutual aid agencies for their invaluable assistance.” The Newton Police Department had not responded to TAPinto prior to publication.
