No injuries reported after damaging storm May 21
No one was injured during the storms that blew through the area between 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. According to an Oregon Police Department news release, assistance was requested by residents of the Village of Oregon for weather related emergencies and property damage. The Oregon Police Department and Oregon Area Fire/EMS District responded to the following calls which were all related to high wind speeds and lightning due to the storms that passed through:
Two community blood drives set for next week
Verona residents are encouraged to “give hope this spring” by donating blood with the American Red Cross. Appointments are now available for local blood drives at Salem United Church of Christ and Sugar River United Methodist Church next week. Salem UCC’s event will take place from 1:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, while Sugar River UMC’s is set for 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.

Traffic delays expected on Cross Country Road this weekend
The Verona Police Department (VPD) is advising motorists of heavy traffic delays on Cross Country Road for the USA Ultimate College Championship this weekend. According to a VPD Facebook post, officers will direct traffic on Cross Country Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25. The USA Ultimate tournament will be held at Reddan Soccer Park.
Quarry Lake Park search ends, body recovered on Sunday
RACINE, Wis. - The body of a person who jumped into the water at Quarry Lake Park and didn't resurface was recovered on Sunday, May 19. According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at about 7:07 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Quarry Lake Park in the Village of Mount Pleasant, for a person who went into the water and did not resurface.

The Upper Sugar River Watershed Association (USRWA) is holding its 10th annual Rob’s Sugar River Ramble fundraiser on Sunday, June 2 at Seven Acre Dairy Company in Paoli. Participants can connect with the Upper Sugar River Watershed by land and water as they cycle or hike through the beautiful countryside beginning in Paoli and ending at the Sugar River Wildlife Area Davidson Unit, then paddle the Sugar River until returning to the starting point in Paoli.

LGBTQ progress pride flag to fly again
For the second consecutive year, the City of Verona will fly the LGBTQ progress pride flag for Pride Month this June. Unlike last year, however, the flag will be located at a total of nine locations – not just city hall.
