Local artist selected for commissioned arts program at Michigan national park
WENATCHEE — Local artist Kasey Koski has been selected for an arts fellowship to create a sculpture for Keweenaw National Historic Park in Michigan. Koski has created a number of public art pieces in the valley, including the 11-foot tall yeti sculpture at Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort, which she says is her most difficult piece to date.
Sinkhole softens city’s Fifth Street bicycle lane
WENATCHEE — A failure in a Wenatchee storm sewer has caused a sinkhole to form in the Fifth Street bicycle lane. The pavement between Chelan Avenue and North Emerson Avenue became deformed by a two-foot hole in one section of the pipe, and another 35-foot section where the bottom of the sewer had eroded away completely. The city council on Thursday passed an emergency declaration to repair the sewer without going through a competitive bidding process.
Icicle River opens for hatchery spring Chinook salmon fishing
LEAVENWORTH - The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced that the Icicle River will open for hatchery spring Chinook salmon fishing. The season will begin one hour before the official sunrise on Thursday, May 16, and continue until one hour after the official sunset on Sunday, June 30.
Peshastin kids get outdoor learning experience
One Chelan County school made creative use of its emergency relief funds awarded during the COVID-19 pandemic. Peshastin-Dryden Elementary School tackled both social distancing and environmental education with its first outdoor classroom, where students can engage with learning while close to nature. Two murals to be painted on the Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club’s annex building
WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club and the Chelan County PUD have partnered to announce that two new murals will be painted on the WRPC’s annex building. The front of the annex building, located near Ninth Street and Walla Walla Avenue, will soon feature silhouettes of both a kayaker and rower. The mural is dedicated to Elliot Scull, WRPC’s founder, and his wife Tina.
