EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Authorities responded to the WEAU 13 News building on Monday for a potentially hazardous substance in an envelope. According to a press release from the Eau Claire Fire Department, on May 20, 2024, at 2:16 p.m., the Eau Claire Fire Department was requested to respond to 1907 South Hastings Way for a hazardous materials investigation of an unknown substance.

Mallards comeback bid thwarted by blown call
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Mallards nearly erased a 5-1 deficit in the top of the ninth inning against the Eau Claire Express Monday night, but the comeback bid was thwarted by a blatantly blown call from the umpiring crew. Eau Claire won 5-3 in the season opener for both squads.
I/G softball season ends with regional loss
After a promising start to the season, the Independence/Gilmanton softball team was never able to get back on track. I/G won its first three games, including a victory over one of the top teams in the Dairyland Conference, Cochrane-Fountain City. However, the Indees struggled from there, finishing 4-11 on the season. Included in that total was a 13-0 loss to Pepin/Alma in the final regular season game and a 13-6 defeat by Osseo-Fairchild in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional opener.
