BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Artificial intelligence is becoming more popular and is being used for almost everything nowadays.

To help people learn more about it, Minot State University leaders hosted the AI and Data Science Summit.

It started out with a panel of professors from the University talking about how AI is impacting their field of study.

Dr. Graves, the keynote speaker, gave two presentations on AI.

“The summit is looking at ways AI and Data is actually being used now that’s different than the way it was able to be used a couple of years ago and advances in the field,” said Graves.

Quinn Sullivan, a student at MSU, shares what he learned from listening to the panel.

“AI is going to be a huge benefit to a lot of different fields but also what I learned from the keynote speaker is you need to keep in mind the ethics behind AI and maybe not all the advantages are truly that good when you bring in human factor,” said Quinn Sullivan a student MSU.

Toby Zeitz, also a student at MSU, says AI is entering everything that we do, including the workforce and education and he adds it also add efficiencies to every day life.

“Being able to actually use AI in an effective and streamline manner to kind of create an efficiency and actually add and make these things faster and more productive for humans,” said Zeitz.

AI has its advantages and disadvantages, where it can do things quickly but doesn’t have the discernment humans have.

Ethics is also a concern with AI, like who can have access to the data used in health care.

Graves also says there are longer term ethical issues like what happens when AI systems can do things better than half of the population?

But it’s all about the way the data is gathered.

“I hope they are able to understand that they can do ethics that just thinking about the way in which they do data science ethically actually makes the data science and AI programs more ethical,” said Graves.

North Dakota has put laws and policies in place in order embrace the innovative benefits AI can have, while also remaining ethical.
