MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — The Minot Engineering Department is asking the city council to approve the hiring of a new electrical engineer — a move which they say will open the door to more ambitious city projects.

“We’re bringing on an electrical engineer to help with the electrical services of some traffic signals, street lighting, and issues with some feed points,” said Minot Traffic Engineer Stephen Joersz. “Specifically, we’re looking for someone who brings those specialties on board.”

By hiring a new engineer to help with the workload, the city notes that they will be able to troubleshoot some of the electrical issues they may come across. The same person will also be brought on board for the construction phase of the District 65 street lights.

The lighting renovation was approved last fall, and city leaders say they are ready to start the construction phase. Throughout the project, crews will be removing 31 lights and installing 63 new lights — which city officials hope will help to make the streets both brighter and safer.
