A-Rod, Marc Lore Acting and Partying Like Majority Owners of the Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Denver Nuggets in game six of the Western Conference semifinals on Thursday, no doubt one of the top-3 biggest victories in franchise history. And on Sunday, they will have an opportunity to top it, if they can win game 7 back in Denver.

And you can bet that there will be two minority owners heavily involved in Wolves activities at Ball Arena before, during and after game 7.

Alex Rodriguez, Marc Lore partying at Target Center like they already own the Minnesota Timberwolves

Alex Rodriguez has been at just about every single playoff game the Wolves have played this season. He is living out his childhood dream, sitting courtside of a professional sports franchise he has a legitimate stake in.

Marc Lore has a busier schedule but he has been present at most of the Timberwolves’ 2024 playoff games too, and no doubt majority owner Glen Taylor, too.

But according to longtime local sports reporter and radio guy, Phil Mackey (SKOR North) who was at Target Center covering game 6 Thursday night, A-Rod and Lore are walking around Target Center like they already own the place. But their involvement within the organization goes beyond dapping up players after wins.

According to what Mackey told Darren Wolfson (KSTP, SKOR North) , you’d already think they are the majority owners, if you didn’t know any better. Apparently, that includes hosting parties in the new “owners suite” that are lasting into the early morning hours after game.

In case you were wondering, Glen Taylor — who paid for the old media room to be transformed into this new luxurious party lounge (at Alex and Marc’s request) — does no participate in these after-game parties. They take place long after he has put his teeth in the glass.

Mackey : “Did you hear the that that private owners room? It used to be the old media press conference room that A-Rod and Lori paid money to convert it to like a private hosting area…”

Wolfson : “Well I’m not quite sure they paid the money.”

Mackey : “So Glen paid [for the owner’s hosting room]?”

Wolfson : “Yes, Glen paid [for it].”

Mackey : “Dude, it was bumping. Two hours after the game and it was bumping. Like, the loudest music, A-Rod sent some stuff out on his Instagram… Dude, I don’t think Mark was there last night but those guys are walking around the arena and walking around backstage like they own the team and it is it’s just a fascinating dynamic, and I don’t think Glen was in there partying two hours after the game with him, so…”

Wolfson : “You don’t think Glen was in there? Glen wasn’t in there at 11:30 last night [joking]?”

From there, Doogie went on to talk about how different the relationship between President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connelly and Marc Lore/A-Rod compared to his interactions with Glen Taylor. Remember, Connelly has an opt-out in his contract after this season.

    The Tim Connelly dynamic

Wolfson also noted on today’s Mackey and Judd episode that the Wolves have someone employed whose only job is to sit in on meetings and be around the team, then report directly to Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez.

“I mean, I’m telling you, even before game five, just to see the interaction Tim Connelly [has] with one of A-Rod’s guys, with Marc [Lore] with Marc’s significant other. Just, you know, the way they have the handshake and the hug and all that. Then, the way he approaches Glen and Becky [Taylor] it’s just… it’s a completely different dynamic.”

“There’s some employees, I know of at least one, that solely reports to Marc and Alex. So he’s on the payroll, but like Marc and Alex are his [bosses], not like some others. And so it’s a very very weird dynamic.”
