It feels like the Minnesota Vikings have had a kicker problem for the last 30-plus seasons. No matter what they do, it just doesn't work out the way you want it to.

They have seemingly tried everything. From drafting them on day three to signing big names in free agency and every option in between, nothing seems to work with any form of consistency. Even Blair Walsh, who made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, didn't make it more than five seasons with the Vikings.

The one option they haven't explored is going the UFL route before this offseason. They did sign John Parker Romo to a contract and drafted Alabama K Will Reichard to compete with him. However, Michigan Panthers kicker Jake Bates continues to show the Vikings why you don't draft kickers by hitting another 60+ yard field goal.

That marks three field goals of 60+ yards and five of 50+, which is remarkable for a kicker who hasn't kicked a field goal since high school. Why draft a kicker when:

    1. They don't last
    2. You can find them in free agency

Bates is right there for the Vikings and should have been a priority. Heck, maybe they bring him in anyway.
