Stephen A. Smith made an interesting comparison on “First Take” Tuesday morning. The ESPN commentator compared Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards to a pair of NBA legends.

Edwards has been phenomenal in the playoffs for the Wolves, and it has definitely caught the eye of  Stephen A. The lead ESPN

“A superstar is official,” Smith stated. He is here. “There was MJ. There was Kobe. And now there is Anthony Edwards. It’s like that. Ladies and gentlemen, a superstar has officially arrived in the NBA.”

Smith said that Edwards takes over games and does what it takes to win like those two NBA legends, so much so that even his teammates defer to him in games now.

It shouldn’t be shocking if you take a look at his stats, he averaged nearly 26 points and five rebounds per contest during the regular season.

So far in the playoffs against the Phoenix Suns, he has scored 15, 36, and 40 points in three games. In addition to those stats, he has made All-Star and former MVP Kevin Durant look like a fading superstar on his last legs.

Edwards had a dunk over Durant that wowed the NBA world and before that, a cross-over move last week that even Durant himself had to appreciate.

It may be a little bit early to compare him to MJ or Kobe, but the way Edwards is playing right now, it may not be too far off.
