The 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot outside a BP gas station on Friday has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as Fa'him L. Miller, of St. Paul.

According to Minneapolis police, Miller was found suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds outside an SUV on the 2600 block of University Ave. NE. The medical examiner's report identifies the specific location as 2636 University Ave. NE, which is the address of the BP station.

Officers arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. and the boy was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead about three hours later.

The medical examiner says Miller died of a gunshot wound to his chest.

"Preliminary information indicates that the teenager was in an SUV with other occupants when shots were fired from a second vehicle that drove into the parking lot," MPD said. "There were no other reported injuries. The SUV was not reported stolen, and it is unknown if the suspect vehicle was stolen."

A woman in her 30s has arrested and booked on an unrelated warrant, with police saying it's unclear how she's related to the incident.

"The death of a teenager out on the street is outrageous and totally unacceptable," said MPD Chief Brian O'Hara. "The MPD will aggressively investigate this incident to its logical conclusion and do all we can to bring some sense of justice for the victim and his loved ones, but we all must work together to end this trend of youth violence."

Police are seeking information about the shooting. Those who can help should call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

MPD is also asking people to report suspicious activity "involving a Kia or Hyundai with multiple teenagers," which have become linked to youth gang activity and vehicle thefts in recent years, to immediately call 911.

"Similar reports in the past have allowed officers to interrupt dangerous behavior and make arrests," MPD said.
