Fallon upends Manogue; Carson, Lowry, Hug and Fernley pick up wins
Fallon had too much speed and the defense came up big at the end as the Greenwave knocked off Bishop Manogue, 32-30 in high school football on Friday night at Bishop Manogue. Fallon plays in the Class 3A, where it won the state championship last season. But the Greenwave knew they could play with the Class 5A Miners. Coach Calvin Connors told his team about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team upsetting Russia in a semifinal en route to the gold medal that year. "When we took on this game, we knew we had an opportunity to do something special," Connors said. "We believed in Fallon. We believed in our community. No one else in the state thought we could do it, but we knew deep down we could." It was the first time Fallon beat Bishop Manogue since 1988. Fallon's Maxton Richardson scored on a 35-yard pass play from quarterback Camden Richardson to take a 32-23 lead late in the fourth quarter. But the Miners answered right away on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Parker Scholl to Lucas Lyles. The Miners got the ball back with 1 minute, 42 seconds left and Angel Quezada came up with an interception
