Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers has been in the NBA for a long time, both as a player and coach. As far as greatness is concerned, the former Coach of the Year has seen his fair share of talented and skilled players dominate the NBA: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and even Giannis Antetokounmpo, who he’s coaching now on the Milwaukee Bucks.

However, one player has stood out this season, captivating fans, players, and legends alike: the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards . With a unique blend of athleticism, style, and supreme confidence, the 22-year-old has been a standout in the postseason, averaging a spectacular 32.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. According to Rivers, he first heard about this rising star from his son, Austin, a few years back.

    The second coming?

Rivers shared that he received a call from his son, Austin, in 2022. The former Duke standout was playing for Minnesota , and the team was going through training camp. Doc said his son had nothing but praise for his new teammate, Ant. Austin said the young player was a physical freak with an unmatched work ethic and drive.

“You know what's interesting? A year and a half ago, Austin calls me in training camp. He's in Minnesota. He says that this kid here will be the best player in the league in two years,” Doc told Stephen A. Smith.

For his son to predict, such greatness for the former Georgia Bulldog caught Doc off guard. Yet, Austin’s words have proven prophetic as the player known as “Ant-Man” continues to astound with his nightly displays of aerial artistry and dominance.

“I said, ‘What? In two years?’ At that point, two years ago, we were not talking about him that way. And Austin just said, ‘I'm telling you, he has everything. He's more mature than you think, and he's a stone-blooded killer,’” Doc quipped.

    Not there yet

Some experts are already crowning Ant as the second coming of Michael Jordan due to their similar games and competitive fire. However, back in April, Ant said he’s not quite the best player in the NBA…yet .

“I'm probably at like 40% right now. 40%, that's it,” Ant shared , referring to the percentage of his potential. “I'm just saying, I think people forget it. I'm 22; I'm not even touching my prime. I'm still trying to figure out my spots, where to go, and what side of the court I like to be on.”

Don’t be deceived by his modesty. With each game, Ant continues to display flashes of greatness that have convinced many to believe he will one day ascend to the level of other NBA legends. At this stage, it’s not a matter of if but when he will leave an indelible mark on the NBA.
