Expansion is planned at SCTC’s Butts County Center
Southern Crescent Technical College has announced plans to expand the Butts County Center’s programming and facility. SCTC President Irvin T. Clark shared the college’s plans to expand the local center at the Monday, Oct. 26 workshop meeting of the Butts County Board of Commissioners. Clark said when he became SCTC president in 2022, the Butts County Center offered adult education/GED classes and commercial truck driving preparation. The center, off Ga. Highway 16 West just outside the Jackson city limits, now offers programs in healthcare and nursing, VEX robotics, mechatronics, small business entrepreneurship and a nursing bridge program. In 2027, SCTC plans to expand programs at the Butts Center to include Nursing and Allied Health (Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assisting, Licensed Practical Nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing), Mechatronics and Robotics, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Plumbing, Construction and Teacher Education. “The growth in Butts County and the region calls for us to have an additional building in Butts County,” said Clark. “The preliminary work shows that we can add a building, but the state will determine where.” Butts County owns the land and the Butts Center building.
