    Chargers Softball Defeats Monroe Under the Lights in Milltown

    MILLTOWN, NJ - The Spotswood High School softball team took the field at Borough Park for the Chargers annual night game in Milltown on Tuesday. Spotswood defeated Monroe Township High School 7-4. A six-run third locked down the Chargers' 17 th victory of the year. Ava Mormile picked up another win on the mound. Mormile went the distance under the lights, pitching seven innings and giving up four runs on two hits and striking out five.

    Lily Holeman was charged with the loss on the mound for Monroe. Holeman pitched three innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits and striking out one. Brianna Bukowczyk also pitched three innings for the Falcons. Bukowcxyk had four strikeouts.

    Mormile had two singles for the Chargers and drove in a run. Isabella Vitale had a single and a double. Vitale also scored two of Spotswood's runs. Gabrielle Hill had a single, two RBIs and scored a run. Hanna Brown had a single and an RBI. Hannah Graulich hit two singles and scored a run. Juliana Ziegler scored a run for the Chargers. Sasha Soffer hit two singles, drove in a run and scored a run. Maya Redondo hit a single, drove in two runs and scored a run. Monroe had hits from Bukowczyk and Brielle Zarsky.

    Spotswood returns to the field on Thursday when the fourth-seeded Chargers host 13th-seeded East Brunswick Magnet in the first round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Softball Tournament. East Brunswick Magnet is 15-3 in the GMC's Gold Division this season. Spotswood is hosting all four GMC Tournament quarterfinal games on Saturday.
