The Millcreek Township School District will partner with the Millcreek Education Foundation in a capital campaign to raise money for a multi-sport stadium.

The proposed complex would be built at Gus Anderson Field at McDowell High School and would include a fieldhouse, track, lighting and other facilities, according to early plans.

"The envisioned multi-athletic complex will provide modern amenities to accommodate a diverse range of sport and student activities," district and foundation officials said in a joint statement last week. "The proposed facility seeks to transform the athletic and spectator experience for our students and the wider community, enhancing opportunities for physical activity, skill development and community engagement."

Total cost of the complex is estimated at $10 million to $15 million.

The Millcreek Township School Board has committed $5 million for the project from money borrowed in the district's $33 million bond issue earlier this year. The Millcreek Education Foundation will help raise the remainder of the money needed.

"We need to find partnerships to raise these funds in other ways" than relying solely on tax dollars, Mike Lindner, chairman of the Millcreek Township School Board finance committee, told the board in February.

Contributions from community stakeholders will be "instrumental in bringing this vision to reality," district officials said.

Several architectural firms will be invited to present proposals for the project. The presentations are tentatively scheduled during the School Board's April 15 committee meetings.
