Food Trucks face off at Whitmer
Clay vs. Whitmer Food Truck Face-Off The 4th Annual Food Truck Face-Off is set for Wednesday from 3:30 to 6 p.m., with the rain date being Thursday, at Whitmer High School, 5719 Clegg Dr., Toledo. This event features six teams from Clay High School and Whitmer culinary arts programs serving sample-sized portions from their respective food trucks to compete for the Top Entrepreneur and People's Choice awards. All are welcome, and no admission fee is required. Cash and credit are accepted at the food trucks.

Monday Memories: Grad’s hat made a handy slate for honoring mom
Graduates have been decorating mortarboards with messages and sculptures since at least the 1960s. According to an article on history.com, the tradition likely started with peace signs and slogans written on the hats, protesting the Vietnam War. It has since expanded to include witty sayings, artwork and personal messages. On the day before Mother’s Day, University of Toledo graduate Justin Hage thought it would be a great idea to pay tribute to his mother. In this 1998 Blade archive photo, he writes the message on his mortarboard in bold white marker, while Tina Hirauye watches. Hage later walked across the stage to accept his diploma for a degree in marketing.
