Take a hike to the Sacramento River Trail
Despite its name, the 17-mile Sacramento River Trail isn't tied to California's state capital but to a section of the 400-mile river that winds through Redding. However, don't panic. If your knees are protesting at the thought of attempting this long trek, you can still enjoy the popular path's highlights via a much shorter walk & drive combo that includes stops at three amazing bridges that span the Sacramento River.

The river continues to fish well
The river continues to fish well and there are still a bunch of salmon spawning all the way down past Red Bluff. The flows are currently 7,200 CFS, the BoR will be decreasing them beginning on Thursday, October 30th, to 4,000 CFS on Monday, November 10th. The Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District canal will be shut down soon and the diversion boards will be removed the first week of November. Rainbows are mainly behind salmon eating eggs up top, down past Anderson you will find more fish in runs eating caddis in the afternoons. Egg patterns, Bird's Nests, Cinnamon Poopahs, Olive Hotspots, Weiss Nymphs, & Rubberlegs continue to be the top producing flies. If you aren't picking up fish on eggs, try the recommended flies. Dry-dropper in the shallower sections will net quite a few fish. From the Perry Riffle down through Red Bluff you can swing soft hackles for big fish in the evenings or throw a dark Missing Link.

From menudo to tri-tip, Redding gas stations have your next tasty takeout at a nice price
Gas stations have upped the game on food choices. A few of them, like Maverik, rival fast-food restaurants with plenty of hot and fresh offerings. Most stations with their convenience stores typically offer fountain drinks, snacks and packaged sandwiches, but a few take gas station food to the next level. Follow along for what you'll find at five spots in the Redding area. Krispy Krunchy Chicken, University Market at Valero Walk into the University Market at the corner of Churn Creek Road and College View Drive, make a left and you’ll see the Krispy Krunchy Chicken counter. Here, kitchen manager Steven Thompson and his crew fill orders for their popular chicken tenders and potato wedges. But there’s also thighs, drumsticks, whole wings and more. “A lot of people come in and they seem genuinely impressed with our chicken,” Thompson said. “I tell my crew all the time that we’re getting feedback from our customers and they’re saying that we’re some of the best in town.” “I try to be humble about it but this is what our customers are saying,” he added. Sausage and bacon breakfast burritos are another go-to item. They’re made fresh next door by From the Hearth

French bakery steps from Redding Public Market has 'dreamy' opening. El Pollo Loco update
The day after the Tuesday, Nov. 4, election, the line at the counter nearly reached the front door inside downtown Redding’s new French bakery. La Joie opened days before and owner Kate Grennell has been overwhelmed by the initial response. “It feels like it’s been years in the making. We feel like we’ve been in construction for an eternity, but we have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s been so fun to see people show up and turn out,” she said. La Joie is on the ground floor of Market Center on the northeast corner of Market and Yuba streets. While it’s not technically part of the soon-to-be-open Redding Public Market , the bakery, steps away from the market, should be a welcome complement. Like other surrounding business owners, Grennell is eager to see the market open, which is expected to be sometime in November. “Really excited to see all of those businesses open. We kind of chat and gossip in here about where we are going to go for lunch when they open up,” Grennell said. “I think we’re really going to collaborate and bounce off each other but it’s really fun to see

Buzz builds around Redding Public Market opening soon with food, drink choices
The Redding Public Market is expected to celebrate its grand opening in November. Expectations are high for a project and concept that the developer and food and retail vendors that will make up the market say will transform downtown. Indeed, expectations are high. The market has the potential to change the dynamic of downtown, much like the renovation of the historic Cascade Theatre did more than 20 years ago and more recently reopening Market Street to vehicle traffic. The market is on the ground floor of the Market Center building on Market Street. “I think it’s going to be incredible,” said Seng Saechao, who owns Maro Noodle House, one of the restaurants in the market. “I think when the rest of Redding sees what’s inside, I think their minds are going to be blown. There’s nothing like this in town; not a lot of stuff like this anywhere I’ve been to.” I visited with Saechao inside the market on a recent weekday morning as crews continued working toward the opening. “It will get done pretty quick,” he said the work still going on. “Everybody is pretty much there, all the equipment is here, it’s just the installing, cleaning up and

Trinity River - Willow Creek Weir Fish Report for 11-3-2025
The predictions are for heavy rains to come into the Trinity Valley by the middle of the week. If this is correct the river is going to raise substantially with possibly some flooding. This could put a damper on fishing for several days. It could also start more Steelhead to enter the river increasing fishing. The best time for fishing is a day or two after the rains let up while there is still some color to the water as the river is dropping. “Good Fishin”!
