HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii Republican Party held its two-day State Convention over the weekend at Mililani High School.

This year, the organization focused on updating “new rules which were proposed but not addressed at the May 2023 convention.”

Reports said the introduction to these new rules sparked debate amongst members. On Sunday, officials resolved these discussions and updated the Platforms and Resolutions.

In addition, the convention featured a parade of candidates gearing up to give voters an alternate choice this fall.

“We believe that there is a majority that do have conservative values. And it’s just how people have been instructed to vote, you know family tradition to vote Democrat,” said Tamara McKay, Hawaii Republican Party. “But I think there is an opportunity for growth and people to understand that we have family values and our people that we need to put first.”

The party also set up a Remembrance Memorial to honor the members who have passed away. Those remembered include Michael Wilson, Senator Sam Slom, Marian Grey, William Nations, Mark Webster, and Cameron Hewines.
