MILFORD — The unofficial results for the Milford election were posted shortly after the polls closed on Saturday showing a tie of 224 for each candidate in Ward One.

However, after a mandatory recount, the results show Madula Kalesis is the winner with 224 votes against current councilmember Mike Boyle with 223 votes.

The Board of Elections met on Monday to certify the results and announced that Ward One did not end in a tie. A special election that was previously announced to declare a winner has been canceled.

Ms. Kalesis said she is ready to begin reaching her goals as a council woman.

“I am glad the election is over,” said Ms. Kalesis. “I am looking forward to getting familiar with every aspect, working with some of the core subjects that citizens are talking about like streets and roads that need repairs and basically listening to people and their concerns.”

She will be sworn in along with Todd Culotta for mayor and Micheal Stewart  and Katrina Wilson for council on May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

As Mr. Culotta will fill the mayoral seat, his seat as the Ward Two councilmember will become vacant. The council has 45 days within the confirmed vacancy of the seat to appoint someone by majority vote of the council for the remainder of the term that ends in May 2025, according to a release sent out by the City of Milford.
