MISD names new principals, Executive Director of Fine Arts

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – During Midland ISD’s monthly board meeting on Tuesday, Trustees voted to approve the hiring of two new principals and the Executive Director of Fine Arts.

Beau Garza was named as the Executive Director of Fine Arts. Currently serving as the lead orchestra director for Legacy High School, Garza has served as the LHS Fine Arts department chair for the past four years. MISD said Garza is an expert in his field, earning numerous accolades as an orchestra director, as well as an advocate for all the arts.

Morgan Robertson was named as the principal for the new elementary school in Lone Star Trails. Robertson began her career as a teacher at Abell Junior High School, spent three years as an assistant principal at Jones Elementary and Greathouse Elementary, as well as assistant principal at Goddard Junior High School. She is currently in her second year as principal of General Franks Elementary.

MISD said Robertson will be integral in establishing a fresh school culture, setting new expectations, and fostering an inclusive environment for incoming students, staff, and parents.

Maria Amancio was named as the new principal for Goddard Junior High School. Amancio has 23 years of experience in education, with the past six being at MISD. Currently serving as the associate principal at Goddard Junior High School,  she has also served as assistant principal for four years, teacher, as well as an ESL facilitator.

Trustees also approved employee contracts for the 2024-2025 school year.
