MIDDLETON, Ind. (WTVO) — A man driving a Google Street View mapping vehicle led police on a 120 mph chase and has pleaded guilty to fleeing from law enforcement.

According to the Middleton Police Department, on July 31st, 2023, the Chief of Police spotted the vehicle traveling at high speed in the area of US 36 and Raider Road around 5:11 p.m.

The vehicle, with a Google 360 camera mounted to its roof, was going 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to charging documents.

Police said the driver reached speeds of 120 mph on US 36 as it crossed into Madison County and several cars had to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision.

Eventually, the Google Car approached a road closure due to bridge construction, and the driver was traveling too fast to make a left turn, causing the car to drive through a guardrail, into a yard, and go airborne before landing in a creek.

Police said the driver, Coleman Ferguson III, 37, of Florida, initially refused to exit the vehicle but eventually complied and was taken into custody.

He was charged with a felony Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle and was booked into the Henry County Jail.

According to records obtained by The Smoking Gun , on Monday, March 25th, 2024, Ferguson pled guilty to the charge in exchange for a suspended one-year imprisonment.

Ferguson was also ordered to pay $3,220 to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
