Dover finds new site for temporary warming center, with cots
DOVER — City officials announced the Veterans Building at 156 Back River Road will be used as a temporary emergency cold-weather warming center starting Nov. 15, instead of the McConnell Center cafeteria , and it will have cots for sleeping. The McConnell Center had been previously announced as the temporary site because of construction delays for the new Strafford County warming center , which is being built on County Farm Road. The new center won't be ready for the start of the 2026-27 season, which runs mid-November to mid-April. Dover officials previously said the McConnell Center cafeteria would not have offered beds or cots, only chairs, and members of the homeless population using that site would have to leave by 7 a.m. due to other operations in the building, which includes city and school offices and a daycare. The city-owned Veterans Building has room for cots, city officials announced. Strafford County’s contracted warming center operator, East Coast Evolution Leadership, will run the center at this location and the new center, when it opens. Officials stated the warming center is opened based on weather, as determined by the emergency management directors of Dover, Rochester and Somersworth, when extreme or severe weather

DERRY – The Oyster River High School volleyball team got all it could handle from upset-minded Hollis-Brookline in Wednesday night’s Division II semifinals, but the Bobcats held on for a hard-fought 3-1 win to set up a championship match against rival Somersworth. For the second straight year, second-seeded Oyster River (17-2) and top-seeded Somersworth (18-1) will face off in the Division II championship. This year, the teams will meet at noon on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Pinkerton Academy. Oyster River, the defending state champions, handed Somersworth its only loss of the season, 3-1, on Oct. 16.
