FAMU brings back Richard Schweigert as interim CFO amid staff shortage
For a second time, Richard Schweigert has been named the interim finance head at Florida A&M University amid audit issues and a load of vacancies. And one of his tasks appears to be helping the university with staffing as 2026 audits are being prepared, which comes after red flags were raised in an auditor general's March 2025 report on FAMU’s finances for the fiscal year ending in June 2024. During an Aug. 31 special Board of Trustees meeting – which Schweigert attended – an $894,000 contract extension through June 2027 was approved for the accounting firm Mitchell Titus , which FAMU partnered with last year to help strengthen the university's fiscal controls while being short staffed. As the firm helps the university work on its 2026 financial audit, FAMU's Controller Office currently has nine vacancies, according to Schweigert, who will have the title of chief financial officer and vice president for finance and administration. "We're in the process of staffing that up," he told trustees during the virtual meeting. Although FAMU has not yet made a formal announcement about the new interim CFO hire, Schweigert – who held the title at FAMU seven years ago – said he's been in
