5 Best Restaurants in Salt Lake City, Utah You Need to Try Before Everyone Else Finds Them

Salt Lake City — a place where the Wasatch mountains rise like cathedral spires, where the sun glances off glass towers and pioneer brick, where the scent of roasting coffee and chile verde drifts through neighborhoods stitched together by memory and migration. Here, the city pulses with the footsteps of students, artists, tech dreamers, and families who’ve called this valley home for generations and those just arriving, hungry for possibility.

The Utah Fish House On The River Where Seriously Good Seafood Comes In Huge Portions

Fresh seafood flies into Utah by airplane, so your dinner plate can hold fish from waters far beyond the desert. I love that someone looked at a landlocked state and decided great chowder still needed to happen. The founders started arranging daily fish flights back when the idea sounded a...

Backburner: Understudy opens in the Post District; Benihana opens in Riverton; North Italia debuts its fall menu

Climb the stairs at Sunday School in the Post District, and you’ll find Understudy, the neighborhood’s newest bar. It’s a place built for lingering. Drinks come in two lists—one with alcohol and one without—so everyone at the table gets something thoughtful in their glass. Fun Fact: The gin and whiskey in the “without” list are made in-house and are super unique! Natural wine lovers will feel right at home, too. The kitchen deserves its own spotlight. Fans will be thrilled to hear the roasted bone marrow is back, joined by the hamachi crudo and crispy duck rolls, my current favorite on the menu. You can reserve lounge tables on OpenTable, while the bar remains walk-in only. Understudy is open Wednesday - Saturday starting at 5 p.m., and guests must be 21 or older. A favorite detail: Each night centers on a single vinyl record, with Side A playing at 6 p.m. and Side B at 10 p.m. forgivemehard.com/understudy.

I Can't Visit Utah Without Stopping for This Ice Cream

Learn what type of ice cream that I have to get every single time I am in Utah. As a big fan of ice cream and traveling, I have had my share of different regional brands of ice cream. What is special about them is I can only get them when I am in that part of the country. It creates excitement. One brand that always excites me, and that I had a chance to enjoy again was the ice cream from the BYU Creamery. You don't have to visit the campus to get the ice cream; I have always purchased containers of it at Ream's in Springville, Utah.

Farm-to-table restaurant Communal coming to Salt Lake City

Communal, a farm-to-table restaurant and Provo staple, is expanding to Salt Lake City. Driving the news: Owners Kevin and Tessa Santiago revealed plans for the new restaurant in a recent social media post . The restaurant will be at the Twenty Ones Apartments complex in Sugar House. Dig in: The Provo menu includes funeral potato croquettes, gumbo-style chicken, wagyu picanha frites and more. Catch up quick: Communal opened in downtown Provo in 2009 to wide acclaim for its use of fresh ingredients and family-style seating. The original owners, chefs Joseph McRae and Colton Soelberg, sold the business to the Santiagos in 2019. đź’ My thought bubble: I visited Communal for the first time last year and immediately kicked myself for not going sooner. What we're watching: An opening date is expected to be announced soon.
