Groesbeck FFA kids develop speech skills
, It’s not often that Groesbeck students come to Mexia to show off their skills, but that is exactly what happened last week when Groesbeck senior Ryder Bagley and junior Allie Verm spoke at the Mexia Lions Club. They each gave the speech they used in a recent FFA speaking competition, Ryder speaking on the pros and cons of green energy, and Allie on chronic wasting disease in deer.Ryder said the downsides of green energy outweigh the upsides, including the fact that the windmills require non-green energy to be installed and run, often don’t run because of not enough wind, and the blades cannot be recycled.Allie spoke about the danger of chronic wasting disease, which is also called zombie disease in deer since they drool, stumble and lose their fear of humans. Eventually, the deer lose weight and die from the always-fatal disease. Scientists fear the disease could spread to humans, and there is no known way to kill it.
