Ladycats fall to Elkhart, Buffalo in district play

The Mexia softball team lost to Elkhart, 180, in a District 20-3A game at Mexia on Monday, April 15. The contest was postponed last week due to inclement weather.

Elkhart scored two runs in the first inning and erupted for 11 in the second inning. They tacked on five runs in the third inning. The game was stopped after three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

Valerie Garcia and Daizy Fuentes each had a single to account for Mexia’s two hits in the game.

Mexia was scheduled to host Groesbeck on Tuesday. The Ladycats will return to action Friday, April 19, wen they play their season finale at Palestine Westwood at 6 p.m.

Buffalo 13, Ladycats 3

Buffalo scored four runs in each of the first and second innings and five in the fifth inning to defeat Mexia in a game that was stopped with one out in the bottom of the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Mexia scored single tallies in the first, third and fourth innings.

The Ladycats jumped out on top in the top of the first. Garcia walked and scored on an error to give Mexia a 1-0 lead.

However, Buffalo scored four in each of the first two innings to take a commanding lead.

Salazar singled in the third inning for Mexia. She stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and came home on a single by Rihanna Fuentes.

Nayeli Garay singled to start the fourth inning for Mexia. She stole second and third bases and scored on a passed ball.

Jaley Rodrguez pitched one inning and absorbed the loss for the Ladycats. She gave up no hits and four earned runs. She walked seven and struck out one.

Fallon Jackson pitched the final 3 1/3 innings. She surrendered eight hits and nine runs, all earned. She walked nine and struck out one.
