The Lawrence Academy Lady Warriors were ranked No. 3 in the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) Division 3 softball bracket when they took to the field Saturday, May 11 in the third round of the NCISAA tournament.

The Lady Warriors played strong all year within the NCISAA and came into the postseason with a 14-1 record in NCISAA with that single loss coming back last month to the No. 2 ranked Wayne Christian Eagles.

The Lady Warriors of Lawrence were hosting the No. 6 team in the state rankings, the Cape Fear Eagles.

Cape Fear was led by Junior pitcher and Gardner Webb Commit Glenna Mclamb. Cape Fear jumped out early in the first inning scoring the first run of the game.

Lawrence later tied the game in the third inning after Chloe Ferebee drew a one out walk and then was moved to second on a Samantha Hughson sacrifice bunt.

After a wild pitch, Ferebee moved to third and, as Addie Phelps drew a walk, Ferebee scored on another wild pitch.

The score remained tied until the fifth inning when Caroline Halstead drew a one out walk and the Lawrence coaching staff put in speed on the bases of Jaslene Etheridge. She moved to second base after Chloe Ferebee drew another walk, then Samantha Hughson hit a single into right field which allowed Etheridge to score from second base.

Lawrence Academy held on to a 2-1 win.

Clair Ferebee pitched the entire game for Lawrence, only giving up one run on seven hits over seven innings. She allowed only one walk.

The win advanced Lawrence to the final 4 of the NCISAA Division 3 Playoffs on Monday, where they played the only team that had beaten them within the NCISAA, Wayne Christian. The Eagles were just too much for the Lady Warriors as they fell in the semi-final matchup.

Lawrence finished the season with a 15-2 record in NCISAA, and as Tarheel Independent Conference Regular Season Champions, TIC Tournament Champions and an overall record of 16-9.

Lawrence Academy is coached by Neil Baker and Mike Pippens.
