    Pedestrian killed on rural road in Franklin County

    A Mercersburg man was struck by a vehicle and killed while walking on a rural road in Franklin County on Thursday evening, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

    John Stottlemeyer, 77, was facing traffic while walking in the northbound lane of Lemar Road, Peters Township, at about 9:12 p.m. when he was hit by a GMC Sierra pick-up truck.

    Stottlemeyer died at the scene, according to police. His body was located about 60 feet in front of the truck, police said.

    The driver was Anthony Smith, 55, of Mercersburg. The police report does list any traffic violations or charges.

    The police report did not say where on Lemar Road the fatal incident took place. It runs from Pa. 16 in Upton to Fort Loudon Road.
