New Italian restaurant to open in South Bend's Eddy Street Commons
SOUTH BEND — By the end of this year, South Bend residents won't have to travel to Elkhart to get a taste of the pizza at Osteria Amici . Navarre Hospitality Group and Paul Cataldo, who jointly opened the original location at 240 E. Jackson Blvd. in Elkhart’s River District in May 2025, have announced plans to open a second location — in the recently closed Urban Outfitters site at Eddy Street Commons. The Elkhart location, headed by Cataldo, a world champion pizzamaker , is known for it's imported Italian flour and its 72-hour dough fermentation process. "We felt really strongly that we had a good concept when we fleshed out exactly what Amici would become" Navarre Hospitality Group Vice President Matthew Soutra said. "But the response from the community was really even more that we had anticipated. One of the challenges is that the space there is very small, so we thought, 'Boy, if we could do this again, we would love to have more capacity to be able to do more, maybe offer private events.'
