    Maroons double up on fourth-place finishes at Esky Invite

    ESCANABA — Menominee’s girls’ 1,600-meter relay team snared first place at the Escanaba Eskymos Invitational on Friday.

    Emily Schuettpeltz, Lexi Marineau, Gianna Coduti and Erin Schuettpeltz cruised to victory with a time of 4:23.68, nearly seven seconds faster than Sault Ste. Marie’s Isabella DeWildt, Grace Mayer, Taryn Pratt and Dayna Szabo, who finished second in 4:29.37.

    Friday marked the second straight meet that the Schuettpeltz sisters, Coduti and Marineau captured the top spot in the girls’ 4x400 after the quartet posted a first-place finish in Escanaba on April 30.

    The Menominee girls finished fourth overall in the team standings with 54.5 points.The Maroon boys also finished fourth with 48.5 points.

    Sault Ste. Marie dominated both fields with 163 points on the boys’ side and 164.5 in the girls’ competition, good for first place in both.

    The Gladstone boys placed second with 109.5 points while Bark River-Harris (56.5) was third.

    BR-H and Gladstone flip-flopped places in the girls’ standings, with the Broncos garnering 94 points, six ahead of the third-place Braves (88).

    Nathan Komp took second place in both the 200-meter (24.06 seconds) and 400-meter dash (53.64) after taking fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.65 seconds.

    Komp then teamed with Brayden Bourion, Jackson Myszak and Maverick Geniesse to finish second in the 1,600m relay (3:49.43).

    Bourion, alongside his brother, Brayden, Henry Zuehls and Caleb Barstow gave the Maroon boys another second-place finish in relay action after the quartet finished the 3,200m in 9:20.98.

    Zander Jurkiewicz competed in the 110m hurdles and placed fourth after posting a time of 18.84 seconds.

    Jurkiewicz also seized fifth place in the high jump with a leap of five feet, six inches.

    Darrent Butler soared to third place in the high jump with a height of 5’ 8”, and was tenth in the long jump with a distance of 16’ 4”.

    On the girls’ side, Winley Brandt took second in both the 1,600m (6:02.73) and 3,200m (13:37.47) runs.

    Coduti and Erin Schuettpeltz paired with Richele Milostan and Mackenzi Pesola to run a fourth-place time of 1:55.86 in the 800m relay.

    Pesola also saw solo success with a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap measuring 14’ 2”.

    Emily Schuettpeltz took second in the high jump (4’ 10”), while Erin Schuettpeltz (4’ 8”) was sixth.

    Erika Peterson tallied a toss of 89’ 3” in the discus, putting her in third place, before recording a heave of 28’ 7” in the shot put, good for fourth place.
