    Marineau ties for first at Gladstone GNC meet

    GLADSTONE — The Menominee High School golf team traveled north to compete in Monday’s Great Northern Conference nine-hole meet at Gladstone Golf Club in Gladstone.

    The Maroons finished fourth overall in the team standings in both the boys and girls’ competitions, with the Lady Maroons carding a combined 226, while the Menominee boys wrapped up their afternoon with a combined 170.

    Escanaba won the boys’ match with a score of 161, edging second-place Marquette (164) by three points, with host Gladstone (166) taking third while Kingsford brought up the rear with 178.

    The Flivvers had better luck on the girls’ side, topping the field with 202. Escanaba (210) was second, followed by Marquette (215) in third and Gladstone (306) in fifth.

    Menominee’s Lexi Marineau finished tied with Escanaba’s Kamrie Scott for first place after both players finished with a low-round score of 43.

    Mackenzie Doyle backed up Marineau with a 54 while Anna Axtell was close behind at 57. Ava Chouinard shot a 72 to round out the day for the Maroon girls.

    Keegan Wickstrom paced the Maroon boys with a team-low score of 41, putting him in a three-way tie with Gladstone’s Matt Meyer and Rory Johnson for eighth place.

    Escanaba’s Graham Johnson finished first in the boys’ standings after carding a low-round score of 36, two strokes ahead of Kingsford’s Lance Harry, who settled for second place with a 38.

    Jacob Schultz and Jonah Slawinski both shot 42s for Menominee. Nathan Schultz finished at 45 with Connor Coudit two strokes behind at 47.

    Menominee: The Maroon girls return to Gladstone on Thursday for a 9 a.m. tee time. The entire team will participate in the Marquette GNC meet on Saturday at 1 p.m.
