Annual Relay for Life kicks off at Rutland Fairgrounds
RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - The annual Relay for Life kicked off at the Rutland Fairgrounds this afternoon. It’s a fundraiser put on by the American Cancer Society. In the 35 years the event has been held in Rutland, they’ve raised 4.5 million dollars for cancer research and support - making it one of the biggest in New England.
Owner of closed drug clinics is under indictment in Vermont for health care fraud, other offenses
MANCHESTER, NH – The closure of six drug clinics in two states follows the indictment in April of its owner on federal charges in Vermont. Dr. Adnan S. Khan, 48, of Grantham owned New England Medicine and Counseling Associates (NEMCA) with locations in Grantham, Manchester, Newport and Rochester, and two others in Rutland and Colchester,Vermont.
Killington Road reconstruction: what to expect this week
“Expect drilling and blasting this entire week,” Markowski Excavating, Inc. wrote in a news release. “There will be one blast daily. We aim to blast between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, but if there are any unforeseen delays it could be as late as 1 p.m.” the firm noted, adding, “We are shaping up the slopes and subgrade along the southern end of the project. Now that the sewer line is removed, the dirt in that area will be fully removed next week. In addition, we are hauling blasted rock off site.”
Killington, VT to Open for One Final Day of Skiing
Officials at Killington Resort in Vermont had teased a potential final weekend, conditions permitting. This morning, things became official when the resort reported that they will be open on June 1st for the final day of the 2023/24 winter season.

Ricky Bowen, foreman for the town of Killington highways and facilities, stepped away from that post on May 15 after 36 years of service. “The town will not publicly comment further because of respect for the process and because this is a personnel matter,” wrote Town Manager Michael Ramsey. “However, during the pendency of this matter, the town and its staff will remain committed to continuing to provide the high level of service that the residents and visitors of Killington deserve and expect.”

Memorial Day Weekend Ends with New England Earthquake in New Hampshire
The Memorial Day Weekend ended with a weak earthquake in New England in southern New Hampshire near the border with Vermont and Massachusetts. Striking outside of West Chesterfield just across the river from Brattleboro, Vermont, USGS reports the weak magnitude 1.4 event struck from a depth of 4.6 km at 8:25 pm last night. While the earthquake was too weak to create any damage or injuries, people did use the USGS website to report they felt shaking in the area around the epicenter.
Financially strapped Rutland cemetery will remain open
RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) - Rutland’s Evergreen Cemetery is staying alive with a gift of life from a new board of trustees. The 163-year-old cemetery has faced financial challenges and back in March the board announced it would fold June 1 after the city didn’t want to pick up the extra yearly expense.
