Volunteers are needed for “Work, Play, Earth Day” at Copper Falls State Park in Mellen on May 4 to help kick off the visitor season.

Folks of all ages and abilities can help park staff with tasks needed to help spruce up the park.

Volunteers can sign up to choose for various light maintenance work like painting, raking, windfall pickup, tree planting and cleaning up the historic structures at the park.

Park admission will be waived on May 4 for all workers and everyone attending will receive a bare root native shrub of their choice to plant at home.

Volunteers can meet at the picnic area pavilion at 9 a.m., rain or shine, to sign up for an activity. Helpers are automatically entered to win a free overnight stay at AmericInn Splashland Water Park in Ashland.

The day includes free lunch provided by Friends of Copper Falls State Park, followed by the drawing. Those interested in helping should dress for the weather and bring work gloves or an optional rake. No pets are allowed during the work.
