    Melbourne and Eau Gallie to go on the road for softball regional finals

    Melbourne and Eau Gallie are the two remaining Brevard County teams competing in the FHSAA state softball playoffs.

    The two teams will be on the road competing in regional finals on Friday, May 17. Here's a look at each matchup:

    No. 2 Melbourne (29-0) at No. 1 Bartow (28-1)

    After winning the Class 6A state championship two years ago, the Melbourne High Bulldogs have made their way back to the regional finals.

    The undefeated Bulldogs will play at Bartow on Friday at 7 p.m. in Region 3-6A final. Melbourne played Bartow earlier in the season and handed the Yellow Jackets their only loss of the year.

    Melbourne senior Jasmine Francik has dominated on the mound all season, tallying 387 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.21. Freshman Layna Ayala has hit a team high six home runs to go with 35 hits, 30 runs, and 22 RBIs, Rylie Mecchella enters the game leading Melbourne in both hits (39) and RBIs (32).

    Katelynn Oxley has struck out 218 batters, an ERA of 0.15, and also leads Bartow in RBIs with 28. Kyndal Cornelius has 34 hits, 28 runs, and 24 RBIs and McKenzie Gibson leads the Yellow Jackets with 34 runs scored this season.

    This game will be a battle between two teams ranked top four in the state looking to earn a spot in the state final four.

    No. 3 Eau Gallie (17-6) at No. 1 Eustis (23-2)

    In the Region 2-4A semifinal, Eau Gallie went on the road and put 11 runs to defeat No. 2 Lake Region. On Friday, The Commodores will go on the road once again to play Eustis in the regional final at 7 p.m.

    Eau Gallie is currently on a five-game win streak dating back to April 17. Catcher Sarah Langlie has eight home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 hits, Sara Walsh is the team leader in runs (20) and hits (29), and Sis Cabral has 21 RBIs, three home runs, and 16 hits for the Commodores. Pitcher Heather Rue has struck out 78 batters with an ERA of 2.85 this season.

    Some stat leaders for Eustis include Skyler Cloud, who has 130 strikeouts and 1.78 ERA, Jensen Luke has 30 runs, 37 hits, 34 RBIs and five home runs and Ciara Maple has 42 runs, 42 hits and 30 RBIs.

    Winner of this game will claim a spot in the Class 4A state semifinals.
