DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two people were reportedly found dead in Champaign County home.

According to Champaign County Chief Deputy Eric Holmes, someone called 911 around 9:50 a.m. Dispatchers were asked to respond to the 7300 block of E. State Route 29 in Mechanicsburg.

Police said the homeowner called to report two people residing at the home may have been dead inside of the home. The two males were reportedly living inside of the house through agreement of the homeowner. Both males were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ohio BCI Crime Scene Unit, Champaign County Coroner and Champaign County Sheriff’s Office were all called to the scene, according to Holmes.

Holmes says there is no danger to the community. Officials believe the incident is “contained” at the residence.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has labeled the incident as a “suspicious death investigation.”

On May 3, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office identified the decreased males as Wayne Smoot, 74, and Lundy Travis, 68. Preliminary reports from the Montgomery County Coroner confirm that both men died of gunshot wounds.

    The incident remains under investigation.
