Lafayette transit riders set for safer, more reliable buses

Lafayette’s public transportation system is set for a major upgrade after Lafayette Consolidated Government secured nearly $3 million in competitive federal funding to replace aging buses and modernize the facilities that keep the Lafayette Transit System running. LCG, through the Lafayette Transit System, received $2.985 million in Federal Transit Administration grants, making Lafayette one of only a handful of transit systems in Louisiana selected for funding through the competitive redistribution of unused federal transit dollars. The investment comes as Lafayette works to modernize its transit fleet and improve the reliability, safety and comfort of public transportation for residents across Lafayette Parish. "Reliable public transportation strengthens our workforce, supports economic opportunity, and connects residents to the services they depend on every day," said Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. "These competitive federal investments allow Lafayette to continue modernizing our transit system while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. By investing in safer buses and more efficient maintenance facilities today, we are building a stronger, more reliable transit system for the future."
