    Need weekend plans? Here’s what’s going on in the area

    With mild weather forecasted and a slew of local events and festivals planned, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful weekend.

    Here’s the rundown:

    Friday, May 17

    UFO Festival — The aliens are attacking McMinnville!

    Well, it’s actually just people dressed up as aliens, and they’ll be participating in a parade, listening to speakers and music and hobnobbing with fellow cosplayers during the 24th annual UFO Festival.

    It’ll be Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, on the streets of McMinnville and at Hotel Oregon. More information here.

    Oregon International Air Show — Get ready for take off!

    Jets will be soaring through the sky during the 2024 Oregon International Air Show from Friday, May 17, to Sunday, May 19, at the Hillsboro Airport. Find out more here.

    Oregon Trail Rally — The annual Oregon Trail Rally will once again put on a show May 17 at Portland International Raceway.

    The event is part of the American Rally Association's national championship series, and continues for the weekend with events in Maryhill, Washington, on Saturday and in Dufur, Oregon, on Sunday. See the details here.

    Saturday, May 18

    Washington County K-9 trials — Washington County’s professional canine competition is back for another year of tricks, agility and tail-wagging excitement.

    Hosted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff’s Office Foundation, the 17th Annual Washington County K-9 Trials returns to the Hillsboro Stadium Saturday, May 18. Here's more information.

    Local Author Fair — There’s nothing like soaking up the sunlight with a good book, and the Beaverton City Library’s Local Author Fair is a chance to discover your new favorite writer.

    This year, the fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Beaverton City Library. More information here.

    China Forbes concerts — It took 10 years to produce, and a lot of emotion went into the making of the third solo album for China Forbes, the main singer and a songwriter for Portland band Pink Martini.

    Forbes will celebrate the release of “The Road” with shows Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, at Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton. Check out the details here.

    Sunday, May 19

    Pink! Rosé Festival — Get ready to toast to rosé during Tualatin Valley’s pink-centric festival, bringing residents from Washington County and beyond to the Hillsboro Ballpark from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

    Attendees are invited to taste the latest rosé releases from 25 Tualatin Valley wineries while embracing the verdant landscape of the ballpark, listening to musical performances and trying mouth-watering dishes. Find out more here.

    Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride — The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research, suicide prevention, and men’s mental health.

    It takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, starting at The Jupiter NEXT Hotel in downtown Portland. Here are the details.
