PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – A man accused of shooting a pellet gun at a woman and then himself in a case of domestic violence in rural McMinnville now faces assault charges, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael John Morgan, 22, was injured April 24 after deputies said he shot a woman in the back of the head with a hand-pump pellet gun before turning the weapon on himself.

Authorities said the incident likely involved domestic violence within the home and found multiple assaults that had been committed in addition to the shooting – including someone hit in the head with a piece of lumber.

Deputies responded to the area of 4400 Southeast Riverside Loop after a caller claimed to have heard a .22 caliber gunshot and people yelling that someone had been shot in the head.

Morgan faces charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
