Court issues ruling for defendant in crash which killed 19-year-old Alabama student
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — The man charged with killing a University of Alabama student and sorority member during a DUI crash has been denied youthful offender status. During a Wednesday hearing, Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Shanta Owens ruled against the request of Gabriel Uncapher to be tried as a youthful offender, court documents show.

Driver allegedly strikes several police cars as Vestavia Hills traffic stop leads to chase on I-65
A man is in custody after a police chase that started in Vestavia Hills and ended in northern Jefferson County. Officers tried to carry out a traffic stop about 4 a.m. Friday in Vestavia Hills for a traffic violation. The adult male driver refused to stop, police officials said, and a chase ensued along Interstate 65 northbound.
